Introduction
In 2020, the sudden outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia (covid-19) caused tremendous pressure and challenges to global public health undertakings. In the face of the epidemic, countries concentrated medical resources and invested in the development of rapid diagnosis methods and treatment schemes for covid-19.
COVID-19 is highly infectious, and efficient detection and screening is very important to control the spread of the epidemic. At present, the commonly used nucleic acid testing and screening methods usually take 1-2 days to get the results, and the screening efficiency is relatively low. With the arrival of autumn and winter, the rise of the incidence rate of respiratory diseases has brought greater pressure to the detection and screening of covid-19. At present, covid-19 infected people in many regions of the world are showing a trend of secondary outbreaks. It is urgent to develop and promote a faster method for screening covid-19.
As a POCT technology, breath analysis breaks through the limitations of fixed-point detection in clinical laboratories, speeds up diagnosis and can effectively protect the personal safety of medical staff, which is a direction worth exploring.
For this reason, foreign research teams carried out a six-month clinical feasibility study in Edinburgh, UK and Dortmund, Germany respectively, and found that there were specific VOCs in the breath of COVID-19 patients, which had good accuracy and specificity in identifying COVID-19 and other patients, providing strong support for the application of rapid breath screening COVID-19.
